Question for SurnameIndex
Hi, sorry I couldn't post this as a quote so I copied it and pasted still not to familiar with forums
[QUOTE: Old 18th February 2010, 05:22 SurnameIndex Registered User Litvinskiy from Pskov area. I know, I know, Hannia is not going to like it here] Could you explain what you meant by this, as I am searching for the name LITWINSKI-A. I hope you understand my question. Thanks Lizzie AUSTRALIA |

It means that at least one source contains surname Litvinskiy/Litwinski/Литвинский:
Pskov Necropolis, published in 1916 and List of Volyn province Noblemen, published in 1906. If you think that your Litwinski might be from the mentioned areas, I can provide additional details. |

Lizzie,
I have recently been contacted by an old member, who is currently working as English teacher in Poltava, proper. Can we enlist his help in your search? If so, how, and I will ask him.

Hi Hannia, where do I start? I have had a reply from the Archives in Poltava ( no information ) so I guess could the member go to the Catholic church and speak to the priest or maybe go to the Catholic cemetery if there is one in Poltava and look for names??? I"m a bit lost here such a great opportunity and I don't know where to start. I have photos of my mother when she was about 16-18 also of grandparents taken in the early 40's would possibly help to give to priest and he can show his congregation?? I can give my email address and the member contact me with the best way to go about this?? What are your thoughts on this??
Thank you Lizzie Australia Ps so far not been able to contact Polish priest in my area as he is always busy and also travels between towns. |

________________________________________________ Lizzie, take a breath and think about how you might like to proceed. I agree contacting the priest at the reconstituted Roman Catholic Church is definitely at the top of the list. Maybe the priest would know whether any RC Cemeteries survived in Poltava. Maybe priest can find out where records for ethnic Poles may be or have been kept???? Please IM me and leave your e-mail and I will put you two in contact, but first I need a day or two to clear the way for you. I do not foresee a problem, so do not worry.
