You have been a breath of fresh air I am but Gregory Jurchuk's Great Grandson and untill now with the use of World wide web there has never been any success mainly due to language barrier, yet I am currently trying to learn Ukranian language. my email is jami.1969@hotmail.com if any one might be able to advise me on how to locate and connect with.
Around 1910 Gregory Jurchuk landid in Canada somewhere via boat from Germany. He then settled in what was then known as Berlin Ontario, and known today as Kitchener Ontario. Today there is well over 100 decendants living mainly in Southwest Ontario but a few have spread over Canada and three or four into USA. |

Jaime,
Congratulations on all your efforts, including learning the difficult Cyrillic Alphabet. That is quite an accomplishment. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Before doing anything, we need to examine GGrandfather's documentation and confirm that he was from Brody, and not from one of the 40+ villages in the Brody district. Immigrants frequently gave their district center as place of origin for geographical reference, because their own villages were small. I quickly checked Ancestry ca immigration and found 20+ pages of Jurchuk/Jurczuk (can be translated to English as Georgeson). This is a very common surname. Best to ask Ruth (zarjacks) for help. She is brilliant at locating immigration documentation. She'll be along soon. Meanwhile, where did you get info that he was from Brody proper? Any idea if he was naturalized? What about GGrandmother? Please tell us as much as you know. ??? I see other Jurchuk/Jurczuk coming from places like Koniuskiv > Brodivskij (Brody) raion/district . IreneLviv, a Ukrainian native and member here, knows Brody pretty well, so hopefully we will be able to help you.

Hello Ruth.
How are you? That is some oil spill in the Gulf we've had. The big concern is that it may move into the Gulf Stream and that will certainly knock out the regional tourism and fishing businesses. With the economy already on its rear, that is all the Gulf States need. ____________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________ The place name Is listed as Russian. I think we might have a Jurczak here as opposed to Jaime's GGranddad JURCHUK/JURCZUK/YURCHUK/YURCZUK. We may also be looking for a place in Brody > Lviv. There are two Popoilki, both are in Northern Poland today (formerly Czarist Russia)??? Something is not making sense here. There is no Brody within 30 miles of either one, but there is a Brodowo near the one near Kolno. ______________________________________________________________________________ Jamie, Was your Grandfather's name Pete Joseph? There is an Kitchener obit listing Gregory and Hedwig nee Stadnik as his parents. If so, than Ruth has located the marriage documentation and that gives us a birthyr. TheRecord.com - Obituaries - JURCHUK, Peter Joseph - Passed away, peacefully, at K-W . . . .
