Looking for relatives of Lenka Zekany
Hi,
I am a relative of Lenka/Leona Zekany looking for her relatives. Her family originated from Misztice (part of the Austria-Hungarian kingdom), now Imstichevo in the Ukraine. We believe she was born around 1920 (we don't know the precise date or place) and lived in Hungary in Hajduszoboszlo as a nun for some years. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. We are in the UK so have very little access to such information as we do not speak Hungarian. Many thanks, Emil

Welcome Emil.
This is a very interesting inquiry. Selo/village Imstychovo (original name Misztice) > Irshavskij raion/district > Zakarpatska oblast/region was founded on the left bank of the Borzhava River in 1351. Today it is a fair size village w/a population of 2,729 people, of which 384 carry the Zeykan/Зейкан in Ukrainian (Zekany) surname. This surname actually dates back to the 14th century and is rooted in this village. The original surname holders were Ivan Aleksievich Zeykan's ((1670-1739)) predecessors. He was a diplomat and scholar for Czar Peter I and tutor to Russian Czar Peter II. To date there is still a famous Chrisrtian Orthodox Monastery in this village. Lenka was probably born Olena, equivalent to Helen in English. Does she remember her parents' names and possibly names of her siblings?

Thanks Hannia, sorry for my awfully late reply!
Dear Hannia
Sorry for not getting in touch sooner but I really was not expecting that anyone would write me back regarding my query, so did not check my messages for ages. Many thanks for your information about Imstychevo, Hannia. I really appreciate you having written me back so quickly! You write about Ivan Alexievich Zeykan who was a diplomat and scholar in Russia. Have you any idea if he was married and to whom ? How many children did he have ? Do you know if his descendants still live in Russia ? Or did he return to Imstychevo ? Do you know anything about the predecessors of I.A. Zeykan ? I know that the father of aunty Lenka was Theodor Zeykan, a village teacher. He was also the brother of my grandmother. Any help with answering these questions would be really appreciated. I promise to check the reply much sooner this time! Emil. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 ! |
