Turko from Luba>Wolyn>Russia
I think Zlatica might have hit a home run for you when she found the town of Lyubar > today district center of appx 2,500 people.
The town was originally settled by Kyivan Rus in 1100 AD. From late 18th century to 1919 it was in the Vohlynskaya gubernia/region > Czarist Russia. From 1921-1938 the region came under Reconstituted Poland's domain and was renamed the Zhytomirskie wojiwodstwo/region. Post WW2 it became a part of SSR Ukraine under Soviet domain, until 1991 when Ukraine became independent. I ran the Turko surname thru Lyubar and found 2 Turko listed. I also ran the surname thru Starij (Old) Lyubar, village w/a population of 1,658 people, belonging to the Stryzhivka village cluster (sharing both village adm and post ofc, zip code 13131) and found 18 Turko listed there. There were none in Novij (New) Lyubar, village of 948. It too has a cluster village but I don't remember what it is. All these places are actually suburban villages of Lyubar, the district center> Lyubarskij raion/district > Zhytomirska oblast/region > Ukraine. ôõòëï ïìøçá éììáòéïîï÷îá 0 1930-05-20 ìàâáò ìåî¶îá 48 0 14 ôõòëï åìåîá ÷éëôïòï÷îá 0 1972-03-31 ìàâáò ó÷åòäìï÷á 0 0 ôõòëï îáôáìéñ îéëïìáå÷îá 0 1975-08-12 óôáòéê ìàâáò ó÷åòäìï÷á 0 0 ôõòëï ïìøçá ìõëáûå÷îá 0 1931-01-28 óôáòéê ìàâáò äïâòï÷ïìøóøëïçï 8 0 0 ôõòëï ïìøçá ëõúøíéîéþîá 0 1929-03-10 óôáòéê ìàâáò îå÷¶äïíá 0 0 ôõòëï íáòéñ áîôïîï÷îá 0 1927-07-24 óôáòéê ìàâáò îå÷¶äïíá 0 0 ôõòëï ó÷åôìáîá ñëï÷ìå÷îá 0 1951-07-13 óôáòéê ìàâáò þåòîñèï÷óøëïçï 0 0 ôõòëï ïìøçá é÷áîï÷îá 0 1929-03-09 óôáòéê ìàâáò îå÷¶äïíá 0 0 ôõòëï ÷åòá íéèáêìï÷îá 0 1948-08-13 óôáòéê ìàâáò ó÷åòäìï÷á 0 0 ôõòëï çáìéîá ðåôòï÷îá 22828 1961-12-13 óôáòéê ìàâáò þåòîñèï÷óøëïçï 0 0 ôõòëï òáéóá ÷áóéìøå÷îá 0 1954-03-08 óôáòéê ìàâáò ¶÷áîá æòáîëá 46 0 0 ôõòëï ÷áóéìéê ÷áóéìøå÷éþ 0 1976-03-24 óôáòéê ìàâáò ó÷åòäìï÷á 0 0 Vasyl, son of vasy ôõòëï ÷éëôïò ÷éëôïòï÷éþ 0 1976-01-21 óôáòéê ìàâáò ìåî¶îá 0 0 Viktor, son of Viktor ôõòëï òõóìáî îéëïìáå÷éþ 0 1978-04-29 óôáòéê ìàâáò þåòîñèï÷óøëïçï 0 0 Ruslan, son of Nykolaj ôõòëï ïìåç é÷áîï÷éþ 0 1972-08-18 óôáòéê ìàâáò ó÷åòäìï÷á 50 0 0 Oleh, son of Ivan ôõòëï ÷éëôïò ÷áóéìøå÷éþ 22828 1960-02-06 óôáòéê ìàâáò þåòîñèï÷óøëïçï 0 0 Viktor, son of Vasyl ôõòëï ÷áóéìéê ÷áóéìøå÷éþ 0 1949-03-10 óôáòéê ìàâáò ó÷åòäìï÷á 0 0 Vasyl, son of Vayl ôõòëï ÷ìáäéíéò ðåôòï÷éþ 22666 1930-03-15 óôáòéê ìàâáò ó÷åòäìï÷á 2 0 0 Volodymir, son of Petro ôõòëï îéëïìáê áîäòåå÷éþ 0 1954-12-19 óôáòéê ìàâáò þåòîñèï÷óøëïçï 53 0 0 Nikolaj, son of Andrij ôõòëï îéëïìáê ÷áóéìøå÷éþ 0 1947-05-21 óôáòéê ìàâáò þåòîñèï÷óøëïçï 0 0 Nicholaj, son of Vasyl PS> Today there are appx 3,000 Levon/Levyn (ìå÷éî) residing in Ukraine today. It is not a Jewish surname. It means BELONGING TO A LION. Last edited by Hannia; 22nd March 2010 at 05:52. |

Arkhip = áÒÈÉÐ is a Russian Orthodox given name. It is a form of Archippos, which is rooted in Ancient Greek and means MASTER OF HORSES. You should be able to locate the saint's/martyr's name on a Russian Orthodox Calendar and the date should approximate (within 10 days or so) of GGrandfather's dob.
