Currently looking for church records of grandparents from Darocz, Ung Megye, gmothers name was Marija (Mary) Halagan. She was born in Darocz in June 1886; father was Pal Halagan who later traveled to Braddock, Pa. We know of some brothers/sisters, some which came US. (John, Georg, Michael, Julia, Verona) How can I acquire maybe baptismal rcds. from her parish?? Martha

I have come across Dravtsi (ДРАВЦІ) before. Today it is a micro-district (suburb) of Uzhorod, the capital of Zakarpatska oblast/region, and tough to find on a map. It was formerly called Darocz. Apparently it was founded in the 13th century and played a very important role for royal hunting. This was the place where the king's falconeers (falcon trainers) lived. I know I have more info someplace. I will look for it.

19th century records are available thru inquiry at the Uzhorod Archives. If you like I can recommend a local, who has a good relationship w/the difficult and frequently arbitrary director of the archives. The researcher's rates are fair and he comes w/exc references.

BTW I did find one Halagan/Галаган ( in Ukrainian) listed in the Uzhorod telephone directory. You could have the researcher make a call on your behalf and ascertain whether there is any familial connection.
