Additional info re selo/village Novoshychi :

Village was founded in 1300 on the banks of the Bystrytsia River. Original name of settlement was Sychi = ަ. It was named for the birds that lived in the vines. The river would constantly overflow and the villagers started to build their homes on the hills nearby and then the village was renamed Novoshychi = New Sychi. There are still remnants of a mortar wall that surrounded the village as protection.

Wow! Thank you for these Fedyna names and addresses! I will write letters this week and have them translated into Ukrainian. Are there no Kaszas?

Sorry to say, but I could not find any Kashas in the nearby villages.

Did you ask Viktor to check the immediate vicinity for the surname? How did he do?

Victor checked Dublany for the surname Kasza and found a few records of Kaszas in the late 1700's and early 1800's. No way to connect them to my Marya. There were a couple Kaszas in Dublany but no Marya.

I have taken a few DNA tests to help with my family search. A DNA match here in the US with someone reported to be my 2nd-3rd cousin has given me the most information yet. The woman told me her grandmother's name was Annie Karas or Karshan. I knew it had to be Kasza! She went digging in a box of old papers and then, told me to sit down. She found a document with Annie's father's name on it. Hobid Kasha! As she said, "Wow, eh?"

Her Annie Kasza married Nicholas Andruchow from Szade, a village near Novoshychi, now called Side.I found records from Szade for the Andruchow family, but none for Annie, nor their marriage.

I have written letters to the Fedynas in Novoshychi and had them translated into Ukrainian. I will mail them tomorrow. Thanks for the addresses!
