Unhappy Was Grandfather interned during WW1?

I looked on ancestry.com for your grandfather Sielski and saw that you had researched there. But I wondered if you saw the following 1916 census listing for a Nicola Sielski, prisoner of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police in Medicine Hat? Since he had an Austrian passport, he may have been interned after the 1916 census was done in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Have you ever heard anything of this? if so the Canadian government may have records. If you go to the following document in ancestry.com, you can view details.

Ruth, thanks for the information. No I hadnt seen that 1916 census entry before but without an age its hard to tell. There is another younger Nick Sielski from Humbolt, Sask. that I have come across. I had never heard of grandfather being interned or had my mother ever said he left Saskatchewan (but she wasnt even born at this 1916 census so who knows).

.
I keep hitting wall after wall.

My guess, based on given names on Franceska's side, is that you are looking for RC Records. I know that there is a gap on those LDS Films. What I would suggest is that you contact a researcher, who specializes in this region and in this district. Although he is a scholar living in Lviv, he was born in Ternopil and has recently written a book about famiilies in Borschiv district. I would consider contacting him and asking him for help. He has contacts at all different level archives, including the Borschiv RAHS (district archives). He is very fair and if he can't find the marriage record for you, it doesn't exist. His name is Ihor and e-mail is voronchak@ukr.net

PS> Ihor's spelling might not be so terrific, because he is still working on his English.

The best genealogical information search in metric volumes. Metric books Verhnyakivtsi are:
Borschiv Registry Office:
Greek Catholic: Birth 1876-1944, Marriage 1896-1943.
Roman Catholic: Birth 1884-1944, Marriage 1898-1941.
Ternopil archive:
Greek Catholic: Marriage 1854-1895.
Lviv archive:
Roman Catholic: birth, marriage and death for years 1816-1865

I was born in the village Ozeriany (about 7 km from Verhnyakivtsi). I live in Lviv. If necessary, I can explore the available metric book Verhnyakivtsi, visit the village, take photographs, find relatives and others.
