Herman/Hlibow/Hlibiv

Hello Everybody

My surname is Herman. My family derives from Ukraine, precisely from Hlibiv (near Grymailiv, in ternopil oblast). They were ukrainian-catholics, at least since Teodor Herman, born between (1840-1850). It is very difficult to find any info about Hlibiv in the polish net, inspite I succeeded to find some. Hlibiv was a settlment for nobility since its establishment in 16th century. We also got some traces that our family was also of noble descent but poor, but we are without any evidence and apparently we've stuck. PLS HELP !!!

If anybody knows something about Hlibiv and surrounding arear please share Your knowledge with me. The same if anybody knows the history of the HERMAN family, BAWOROWSKI, SEREDIUK, BIDOWANIEC.

Hlibow/Hlibiv was first documented in 1564 as property of the Ludzytski family. It was/is located on the Tayna River, where archeological digs indicate that there had once existed an ancient Neolithic/Bronze Age settlement of Trypillian Culture (5,500-3000BC) in this location.

Today the village still exists with a population of 981 souls, 34 of whom still carry the Herman surname.

From late 18th century to 1919 wies/village Hlibow was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village with its own Greek Catholic Church. A few yrs ago the vllagers celebrated the 100 yr anniversary of St. Onufrij Greek Catholic Church. The filial Roman Catholic Church was in Grzymalow. Skalat was the POWIAT (administrative district-county) and Grzymalow was the GMINA (judicia-tax district)> Tarnipolskie wojowodstwo/region > Galicia (Halyczyna Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During the Interwar Period (1919-1938) , this region came under Reconstituted Poland's domain. Technically Poland had not existed as a geopolitical entity for the previous 125 yrs. Post WW2 this region became a part of SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain until 1991,when Ukraine became an independent county.

1652 - Lagadovski Family from Kalaharivka attacked Hlibiv and robbed the Ludzytski of their property.

Khutor/estate attached to Hlibow was called Tarasivka.

Misc.

As per Ellis Island Immigration Records, there are two Herman listed as immigrating to America at the very early part of the 20th century. Mykola settled in Rhode Island and became naturalized and Pavel went to Brooklyn, New York.
