Mielimaka in Hadynkowce/Hadynkivtsi..
I learned so much about my Dads side I thought that I would impose regarding my mothers side. We have much less information. My grandfather Antony (Tony) Mielimaka came to Canada around 1919. He was born in 1893. He was an ethnic Pole and was Roman Catholic. I have determined that the R.C. parish closest to his town may have been Kopczynce/Kopychyntsi. I am wondering if there are any relations left in Ukraine and whether the church records are available somewhere. We are in touch with a branch of the family in Western Poland. In Polish the name has a symbol under the third last letter, which I think makes the pronounciation "Mielimonka".
Thank you very much. |

The official filial Roman Catholic Church was in ZABINCE. There were some that did belong to the RC Church in Kopyczynce.

Yes are are right about intermarriages of course..
In Canada, though there was R.C., Uniate and Orthodox Churches in almost all villages or near, they seemed to move around between these churches depending upon the Priest, other local politics etc.

With the exception of being under the Papacy's domain and the tenet of the Virgin Birth of Christ, the Uniate ritual and canon is closer to Orthodox than Roman Catholic. Both still use Old Church Slovanic.

There seem to be no Mielimaka left in Hadynkivtsi. I also checked Husyatyn. None there either.
Today Hadynkivtsi > Husiatynskij raion/district > Ternopilska oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip code 48273. From late 18th century to 1919 it was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village w/its own Greek Catholic Church. Husyatyn was the POWIAT (administrative district-county) and the Kopyczynce was the GMINA (judicial-tax district) > Tarnopolskie wojiwodstwo > Galicia Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During the Interwar Period (1919-1938) it came under Reconstituted Poland's domain. Technjcally Poland had not existed as a geopoltical entity for the previous 125 yrs. Post WW2 the region became a part of SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain, until 1991, when the country became independent. From 1964-1991 the official Soviet name of the village was Komsomolskoye. It was officially founded in 1648 on the banks of the Nichlavka River (today a Reservoir), although it was documented as property of the Polish Feudal Lord Kopienecka in 1562. The root of the name HADYNA means VIPERS. Those still inhabit the immediate area. Today Hadynkivtsi is clustered w/selo Zaremba and has a population of 1,048. Records for the Repatriation of Ethnic Poles. New Page 1 Last edited by Hannia; 11th February 2010 at 21:47. |
