Never say never. It is a Soviet phone book. Anything is possible.

SI,
This is not the first time that I have made such a mistake. I get overly enthusiastic. Eureka is exciting. I am just glad that at least we now know that Semaki is the Italian version of Semenivka. BTW my mistakes keep Irene awake.

He says the village was located near Lviv and was destroyed - how do we know if this info is correct?
There is, for instance, a village of Semakivtsi in the Ivano-Frankivsk region- also not very far from Lviv. Halamai is a rare name and it is better to start with Rava-Ruska. |

I found no Halamaj in Ivano-Frankivsk, but at there are at least 20+ in Lviv. We might even be able to find some in Sokal. My favorite site tells me that there are currently 886+ Halamaj living in Ukraine.

The last time anyone here had contact w/Giovanni was early February. Does he even think that we might be able to help him? His last post was a plea w/o a response. He was just left hanging. Thanks for the answers!!
![]() then, if I have understood well, there are different villages around Lvow and Rava Ruska that they could correspond to what I am looking for. unfortunately, my grandmother is dead in 2003, and therefore she cannot furnish me anymore useful information. what my family and I are trying to understand is as to retrieve information in Ukraine, for example in consulates, files, newspapers....as it would be better to stir? I don't know really from whether to begin, luckily on this site I have found people prepared to help me, however I don't know the Ukranian and little the English, is studying from little Russian. I would like to come in Ukrainian, one day and to see the places in which my grandmother lives...... Are they still these villages there? yes, I am proud of my origins! |

There is a big and nice village of Semenivka in Dn-sk oblst and it is very possible to find Gorki street in it. But it is too far from Lviv.
