Smile last name "MacAhonic"

My maiden name is "MacAhonic". My father's parents came from the Ukraine; however I don't know when they came over to Canada or from what part of the Ukraine. I believe there were 7 boys and 2 girls in his family. My grandparent, Steve and Lena MacAhonic, lived in the Ryley/Strome area.

All I know is when they came over to Canada they changed the spelling because no one here could spell it proper. So this is what they came up with. I know this is a long shot but I figured why not ask. My brother has tried for several years to find any info but has come up pretty much empty handed.
Thankyou InAdvance

Are there three different inquiries here for the surnames íÁËoÇÏÎ (Makahon) - íÁËÏÇÏÎÉË (Makahonik/Makahonyk) ?

There are appx 7,000 Makohon currently residing in Ukraine and appx 20 Makohonyk (ik). The Makohonyk are mostly found in the Ternopilska region.

If you need help, I need more detail than just a surname.

For Kerissa:

Olena and Stefan arrived in Quebec April 27. 1904. They were emigrating from selo/village HADYNKOWTSI > Husyatyn county > Ternopilska region > Galicia/Halyczyna Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. They arrived on the steamer Phoenicia via Antwerp. There were other MAKOHONYK with them: Petro, Hrynko, Trinto and Hanka. I did not look at manifest for detail.

Manifest can be found in Hamburg Lists.
