Archive search at Uzghorod
Thank you for your response. I'm not sure the ins and outs of using forums so I apologize ahead of time.
I'm looking precisely for greek catholic parish records for the town of Sacurov, Slovakia pre-1882. I have searched the FHL catalogue and films and although surrounding villages with greek catholic parishes have very complete records for these pre 1882 dates, for some reason Sacurov is not represented.
On an online group someone responded to my problem and said that the pre-1882 greek catholic records for Sacurov, Slovakia are at the Sart. archives in Hungary. These should be in Slovakia, but apparently there are records that did not make it to Slovakia archives and are still found in Hungary archives. So I have found some of my missing records! BUT ALAS....the records at the Satr. Hungary Archives have gaps. In fact, a 20 year gap right at my time of interest...from 1838-1878.
So, now my quest is to find an archive that may be storing my towns early (pre-1882 records) The dvorsk gazeteer says there was a greek catholic parish in Sacurov, Slovakia established in the early 1700's. The discovery of the records in the Sart. Hungary archives helps confirm this. Now I want to find the rest of the recrods.
This is why I am thinking the Uzhgorod archives. The FHL catalogues everything by the current name of the town as well as old spellings. Therefore, it seems to be pretty complete in the search. I am pretty sure there are no microfims of records earlier than 1882 for my village. Maybe they are in Ukraine. Some people may think it is a long shot that they are at the Ukraine archive, but I was told that pre-1882 records would not be in Hungary as well and it turns out they are.
I am very unfamiliar with Uzghorod Ukraine archives. Are parish records indexed by current village name with links to old village names? Do I need the old village names to look up parish records. Are they indexed so one could see fairly quickly if they are even there?
Thanks again for all your help
