Hello Josephine.

We have some very knowledgeable and generous members here, but you have to do better than just providing a surname.

What is the full name of your immigrant ancestor? Appx when did he/she emigrate? What was the country of immigrationn and where did they settle upon immigration. What religion did they practice? Are there any family stories that might provide some clues? Why have you had a problem locating information? Are there any old documents or pictures?

Why have you come to a Ukrainian forum looking for help?

EK might indicate Polish or Slovak influence????

Josephine,

I found the Gesiorek/Geshorek families primarily emigrating from four places, all in what was once the Historical Region of Galicia.

One group settling in the NE USA, mainly MA and CT, came from wies/village Wolochy (near Ponikwa) > Brody county > what is in the Lviv region of Western Ukraine. There is also an Anna and Antoni, also settling in MA, coming from Przechojec > fomerly Rzeszow county > in the Podkarpackie wojiwodstwo/region of SE Poland today. There is also a Marya from Bolestraszyce> Przemysl county > also in Podkarpaskie wojiwodstwo today. The last group was a post WW2 family, immigrating in 1951 and heading for VA. Ship manifest typed and does not indicate where they were born, but that's easy enough to find out. There is a also a group that immigrated to Canada, but I didn't look into those records for origin. All list themselves as Polish.

Which one of these groups might be yours?

Bob,

I spent a little time browsing your photos in Ukraine. The entire time I had this vision of Maxym with a big grin on his face.
