Where to Look? Family left Boryslav in 1900

As a new user I wanted to thank everyone for this forum. Lots of helpful information and good spirit.

Have some questions and was hoping some of you might be able to help me, or at least point me in the right direction.

According to the records I have, my paternal great-grandfather (Kammerman) arrived in the US with his family, including my then 7 year old grandfather, in 1900. They had come from Boryslav. I would like to locate whayever records exist about them, where they lived, what they did, etc. Also looking for information on family they left behind, which, apparently, were numerous.

According to family legend some of the family was involved in the oil business. Of course, Boryslav-Droho***** was at the center of it back then so it is not unlikely. Whether they were pail-carriers, moguls or something in between is what I'd like to try to discover.

Any thoughts on where I should start my search for these things?

I am planning on travelling to the area in mid-November.

Many thanks.

Thanks Irene. Actually just posted this in the Travel section:

Am an independent filmmaker based in NY and am planning to travel to the Boryslav-Droho***** area to do some filming for a few days in November. Possibility of going to Cernivstki also. Need to find a local "fixer" who can help with permissions, arrangements, translations, etc.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

SamKam,
Can you provide your GGrandfather's full name and those of family he may have travelled with in 1900, maybe his date/place of birth/death. I assume he went to New York?

Ruth,
My great grandfather's name was Elias/Elie Kammerman (also spelled Kamerman). Believe he was born in 1856. Place of birth possibly the Boryslav/Drohobich area. He travelled in 1900 with his wife, Machla Markdorf, his son David, and two daughters, Rose and Molly. They came to NY via Rotterdam.

What permissions do you need?
I can arrange accommodation, driving, translation, visit to Archives
You should have started your research long before planning you visit!

You're right, of course, but the trip has come up unexpectedly. If over the next few days it seems that it will be a waste of time I won't come just yet.

I'm not sure if I need any permissions. I plan on filming while there. Do I need permission to film inside an archive, for instance?

How do I contact you to discuss the various arrangments?
