Trying to find information on- Skachko surname
Hey Guys,
My dads 60th birthday is coming up and I thought it'd be nice to construct a family tree for him. I don't have much information but maybe you guys can still help me out. His name- Ivan Skachko birth: 1949 Oct 28. I know that our lineage comes from Ukraine. We left the Soviet Union in 1990 prior to its collapse. I want to make this a surprise, so I havent been able to talk to my dad and learn much about his Ancestry, I also have a side story that some may be able to help me out with: If I recall correctly, I believe that my family may even have a coat of arms. I believe it was during the second world war that his family took all of their documents and burried them, never to be found again. I think the name Skachko was a name given to them by the government. Ever since the war ended and since time has come to pass, we have not been able to recover any information. The way i understand things, it appears to me that my dads side of the family used to have a certain noble ranking, which he does not seem to know much of either. If anyone has any information, any whatsoever, please let me know. I would even appreciate background information. Anything really... Even if I do not find the coat of arms, I think I'll design one and add it to our family tree. Again, Thank you. |

Where was Father born? Exact place of origin is critical to your research.
Today there are 2,033+ individuals w/Skachko surname residing in Ukraine. The surname is spread throughout both Eastern and Western Ukraine. The surname strikes me as Cossack, but I could be wrong. ???The surname SKAZKA /SKACHKA ( root meaning TALE/STORY) is first documented in Chernobyl area in mid 16th century. This was a craftsman whose name was Matvej Skazka. __________________________________________________________________ The surname was imposed on the family by the govt???? I have been at this for a long time and that is a first for me. Irene may know more about something like this than I??? Last edited by Hannia; 15th October 2009 at 19:42. |

Thank you for the post
I had no idea that there were so many Skachko's existant until this day. Thank you for taking the time to post. I really do appreciate your help.
Perhaps I will try and clarify on the change of name. The way I understand it, is during the communist regime, the Russian government was getting rid of all nobility etc. Being one of the reasons my great, great grand parents burried all of their documentation and took on a new last name. It was not given by the government, but it was done for protection against the government. I'm still not to clear on it, but thats just a scratch at the surface. Again thank you. |
