Searching for documents in Ukraine

My parents came from what is now western Ukraine: Olesko and Chieshke (close to Brody/Lviv). What I'd like to do is find the names of my ancestors and their dates of birth, marriage, and death. I know that my paternal grandparents were Ivan Bachynski and Kcenia Gerus, and my maternal grandparents were Peter Mazaj and Katarina Deneszszuk. Beyond that I have no idea, and I'd really like to go back at least one more generation or two. Can anyone please help me in that endeavor?

Your parents were from what is called the Zolochiv (formerly called Zloczow >Tarnipol wojiwodstwo/region under Reconstituted Poland) raion/district in the Lvivska oblast/region, what was/is frequently referred to as the Historical Halyczyna/Galicia Province. Selo/village Olesko is technically in the Busko district today.

Olesko was a large village w/its own Greek and Roman Catholic Churches.

The other village Chieshke was called Chilczyce. It too was in Zloczow district. It was hamlet size and the filial GC Church was in Poczapy. Pochapy remains in Zolochiv district today. I am not 100% sure that our villages are the same here. Needs further research. It is the wrong hamlet!!! I will provide details in separate post.

What is the time frame that you are researching?

PS> The Bachynskij Meatmarket in NYC is my favorite Ukrainian butcher. Are you any relation?

LDS has filmed all church (GC, RC, and German Lutheran) registers for Olesko. Dates vary.

These may cover your Grandparents??? If Grandparents were GC, you can go back quite a few generations.

Hannia - do you mean village Чишки (Цішки) - Ciszki?? It is still in the Busk district - it is nearly adjacent to Olesko and was quite a large village - nearly 800 souls - and had its own church.

I like everyone to see how easy it is to make mistakes when looking for these villages.

According to the Gazetteer, Ciszki has several different official spellings even in the same historical periods.
