surname halasha or halaska

I am doing a family tree and my grandmother's name was Agrippina Halasha. When I do a people search sometimes it comes up Halaska.??????
Could people have changed their name when they came over from the ukraine?

Hello Janice.

Many of these transliteration variants from Cyrillic were just plain clerical errors.

Halaska is actually a Czech surname, found in the Carpathian Mountains.

I ran the variant spelling (using Cyrillic çáìáóëá) and found no such surname in your villages of interest.
