Ukrainian Town called Harbuzov or similar

Hello,

I am writing from germany and I am looking for my grandfathers birthtown. The town is called HARBUZOV, though I do not know the exactly name. It is something like HARBUZOV and the name has maybe changed during the times...

The town must be somewhere in the region of LVIV, I only know the name of HARBUZOV from stories of my family in connection with LVIV, like HARBUZOV near LVIV....

Does anyone know of this town and where HARBUZOV is located?

Thanks a lot, Gerhard

Hello, and thanks a lot. His name was Balas, but I thought the town would be a little bit nearer to Lviv?

G,

It's not that far. Harbuziv is about 53 miles due east of Lviv, the city, and right next door to
Lvivska (Lviv) oblast/region border. Road pretty direct from Lviv. It's an hour drive. Maybe
1/2 hour, with the way some Ukrainians drive.

I double checked for another same name village, Harbuziv, in Lvivska oblast. I found none.

A search for your surname shows that there are are approximately 500 people w/that
surname currently living in Ukraine. Oh yes, meaning of surname BALAS = SPINEL / PALE STONE.

Can you speak Ukrainian?

Hey, Thanks hannia,

no I do not speak ukrainian, but I´ve got a good friend of mine in Lviv . He is a student of germanistics and he will translate for me.

I am quite new in this forum and I would like you to ask: where did you find the balas...? Where do they live? Where do they come from?

Yours, Gerhard
