Yes, I see that!
To answer your question... next summer hopefully. I had planned on visiting family in Budapest again next summer, and it shouldn't be too much trouble to take 3-4 days to go to Ukraine from there, since it borders Hungary to the North East.

surname Prytula from Hujcze
Hello,
I'm researching the surname Prytula, my husband's paternal great grand father. If I have the correct immigration record he immigrated from Hujcze in 1906 and was born in 1887. I'm going to be in Salt Lake City at the FHL for the next week and would appreciate any suggestions you may have regarding birth, death, marriage records. Thank you, Rosa |

Hijche > zhovkva > lviv
Selo/village Hiyche is first mentioned in historical literature in 1513, but archaeological digs suggest that the village existed much earlier. Excerpt from "Geographical Dictonary of Polish Kingdom & Other Slavic Lands" Hiyche ( half. Hujcze) - village in Rava-Ruska district, 14 km. from the Rava-Rus. Properties of the court in 1369, including 805 forest hectares; peasant property is 3716 hectares. The owner of the property was Lord Zygmunt Vishnevsky. Population: 27 Roman Catholics who belong to parishes in Rava-Ruska, 1630 Greek Catholics, who have a parish in the village, which belongs to Potelytskoho deanate>Peremyshl diocese, which includes branch Zabiria with 823 parishioners, together 2455 Greek Catholics. The village apparently was settled by Walachians (Moldavians)***, with the consent of Polish King Stefan Batory. Where the Wallachian Church once stood in the village is a stone cross commemorating the church. (From the Moldavians there remains a traditional piece of clothing, a GUNKA, that can also be found in Uhniv district.) The parish in Hiyche was established in 1718 and in Zabiria in 1939. ***Google for more history about Wallachians/Valachians. ________________________________________________________________ Today selo village Hijche still exists w/population of 2,188 > Zhovkivskij (Zhovkva) raion/district > Lvivska (Lviv) oblast/region > Ukraine , most current zip code 80314. (It serves as center of Village administration for cluster villages Ivanusy, Fediuky, Colonia Hijche, Hryadya, Dibrova, Melnyky, Luh, Dyachky and Selo) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________ Rosa and Steve, when traveling to Ukraine this yr, you might find telephone to Hijche Mayor's Ofc useful. 380-3252-41730. 380 is code for Ukraine. 3252 is village code. Hi Hannia
Swim suits? Are you joking? I have been twice to the village and was mostly impressed by the Austrian Soldiers' Memorial there. Have many pictures of this village. I guess that the latest books have not been microfilmed - I do not see in your list any coveing early 20th c. Also as I remember some of the books are written in Latin and others in Cyrillic. There is quite a number of Prytula people in the village What is required from me? |
