Help to find Ostrowsky family Basivkut

I'm am hoping someone might be able to help find my father's family. Jakiw Ostrowsky b. 10/3/1924, father Peter Ostrowsky, mother Maria Ostrowsky, brother born around 1934. Peter and Maria were killed around 1937 and Jakiw had to leave the Ukraine very quickly (he was taken to Poland) leaving his younger brother, then about two, in the family home. He was unable to return. He has never talked about what happened and has only recently told me the name of his village.

He comes from a small village called Basivkut in western Ukraine which I have been unable to find......

We would love to find any relatives. Is there anyone out there who can help or point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance.....

Basiv Kut is a suburb of RIVNE - regional (oblast) centre in Ukraine

There are at least 20 Ostrovsky families in Rivne

Basiv Kut (Бас╕в Кут) on the Ustya River, is located appx 1.5 miles south of the regional capital, Rivne.

When Father was born, this region was called Wolynskie wojiwodstwo/region, under Reconstituted Poland's domain (1921-1939). Prior to this, from late 18th c. to 1921 this region, Vohlynskaya gibernia/region, belonged to the Russian Empire.

Archealogists have dated this settlement to Kyivan Rusyn Period, back to 5th Century. It is the oldest location found, where breadmakers lived.

Your other option is to contact Ostrowsky living in Rivne. Many have moved into the city for economic reasons.

Surnames are listed w/different spelling. Telephone code 380-0362

Many thanks for this

Oh my gosh I can't believe I have got so far in less than a day! My father refuses to tell me his brother's name so I have little to go on but I have a colleague who speaks Ukrainian. I will ask if she will call these families......I am assuming after the phone numbers are the addresses....I may write to them instead,

Many thanks to you both for your time and replies

Marya,

Father is afraid of more pain. It is easier not to know.

However, you might be able to get gently around him by
showing him some links about Rivne. Get him talking about
what life was like. Tell him you are interested in the culture
and the way of life.

All you need to do is to locate any Ostrovsky from Basiv Kut.
They should be able to find out thru their own elders what might
have happened to Uncle.

I wish you everything you might wish for yourself in this search !!!

PS> I will look for a Rivne Newspaper online. You might be able to
copy it and give it to Father to read.
