Pat, I just spoke to Viktor. The Lviv Archives have the material, but have not catalogued it yet. Please understand that the Archives are under govt control and things frequently do not move as quickly as they should. He has not forgetten you. He has been staying on top of this w/Archives. He has made a trip to the village and located one very old register, but the important documentation is in Lviv Archives. He told me that he has apprised you of his progress or lack of, but until the archivists do their job, his hands are tied.
You can make a request at Moscyska RAHS (district archives), but they do no research. They only provide you a document, for example a birth certificate. Before submitting the inquiry, you will first need to obtain an ANTHEKA or PRIVACY RELEASE thru your nearest Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate. There is a fee for the privacy release. You will have to provide RAHS with exact birth date of the person you are researching. This process too, will take time. I have the RAHS addresses, which I can post later. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Address to RAHS in Mostyska district center town > Ministry of Justice, formerly called Civil Regiistration Ofc: В╕дд╕л ре╓страц╕╖ акт╕в цив╕льного стану Мостиського районного управл╕ння юстиц╕╖ вул. Staryava > Mostyskij raion/district > Lvivska oblast/region
Старява > Мостиський район
Selo/village Staryava was formally founded in 1461, however the settlement was first documented in 1374. Today, divided between Poland and Ukraine (1981 Polish side became Stawiska and SSR Ukrainian side retained Staryava). Up until 1939 it belonged to the Dobromyl county. Today the Ukrainian side has a population of 910 people. Staryava belongs to the Cherneve village cluster in the Mostyska district. During WW2 the Ukrainian residents were brutalized by all sides. Many were killed and others were sent to Siberia. The Ukrainian residents that landed up on the Polish side were harassed by the Polish govt until they were resettled to the once German occupied territories in Western Poland. __________________________________________________ |
