Avtually your village is called Nosiv (from Ukrainian "nis"="nose") - about 10 km west from Pidgaytsi:
![]() I live in Lviv - it's about 140 km from Pidgaytsi - quite experienced in genealogy researches and tours - may visit Nosiv - look for possible relatives, make pictures of village and cemetery (gravestones with Holiat name), also I can look for records in Nosiv metrical books at Lviv archives. If interested - feel free to contact me at lvivtravel@yahoo.com |

None of the villages in Pidhajtsi district have been filmed by LDS. Records only available thru Historical Archives in Lviv
(100 years old+) and Ternopil Oblast Archives (75-100 years old). Records under 75 yrs old absolutely need PRIVACY RELEASE before any records are released. These can be obtained thru local Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Нос╕в (Nosiv) means NOSES in Ukrainian. It was founded in approximately 1395 on the banks of the Zolota Lypa River. Today it still exists with a population of 602 souls. From late 18th entury to 1919 wies/village Nosow was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village with its own Greek Catholic Church. The filial Roman Catholic Church was in Zawalow. Podhajce was both the POWIAT (administrative district/county) and the GMINA (judicial/tax district). This was the Tarnipolskie wojiwodstwo/ region > Galicia/Halyczyna Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. From 1919-1939 this region came under Reconstituted Poland's domain. After World War 2 this region became a part of SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain until 199, when Ukraine became independent. Today selo/village Nosiv > Piidhajetskij raion/district > Ternopilska oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip 48033. In 1957 this village suffered a great flood. There is a stone church (St. Mykolaj/Nicholas) built in 1831 and two newer chapels (one near village entranceway and the other closer to the church) in Nosiv. There several monuments in this village. One is dedicated to the residents that died under Stalin's repressions. There is also a designated area in the cemetary dedicated to the UPA/Ukrainian Partisans. Nosiv has several prominent residents: politician, L. Horokhivskij, athlete, D. Hula, educator, F. Tula and writer M.Kichura. Last edited by Hannia; 20th May 2009 at 00:27. |

Hannia thank you for the information on Nosiv.
To get a birth certificate of my grandmother Olga HOLIAT born November 5 1908 at NOSIV, should ask to the Archives of Ternopil. How does it do to contact the Archives of Ternopil Oblast. |
