Ukraine Church Records at FHL
My wife and I will leaving tonight for a 10 day visit to our grandparents villages near the Uzhgorod (Ungvar) & Muchacheve (Munkas) area. We have 1 and a half days to travel to the small viiages with the help of an online friend and his brother Mykola & Igor Kohut.
My question is: are the villages of this area on the Family Libray microfulms/ I am talking of the 19 th century record of births, baptisms, marriages and deaths. Also does anyone know if these records are in Latin, Hungarian, Slovak or Ukrainine. I know during the time of the 1840s to the 1890s the area was under Hungarian rule. I cannot read the ukrainine cryllic to see the villages listed. Help!!!! I don't believe that the church record book is available at the small villages Greek Catholic Churches. Am I correct? Thanks, Gerald & Pam (Kampo) Kisabeth Canton, Michigan any help would be great and I am taking my laptop so I can reveive and read your thoughts. |

You should be able to find the records in Uzhorod at a Greek Catholic Church or they will direct you to the correct one that holds the records.
They most likely will be in polish, german, greek, and Ukrainian. If that doesn't work you should try LDS microfilms. They went in several years ago and microfilmed lots of cadestrial records. Good luck with your search. For the small village church they may or may not have it. |
