How to track you roots, in general?
Hi, i am not newbe to this forum but just recently have begun to think about finding my ancestors.
So for now i just would like to know main requirements. Is it necessary to go to some city's archive? Is it a payable service? What documents do i need to submit? Etc. Thanks in advance! |

Before doing anything, you will need to ascertain EXACT PLACE OF ORIGIN for Immigrant Ancestor.
This is critical information to researching roots. Appx when did your Immigrant Ancestor arrive and where did he/she settle upon immigration? What are the surnames you are researching? What is family history re immigration? Often elders in family know more than you might think. Speak to them about your interest. They might even have some old documents in a shoebox. PS> Love your nick.

Native Ukrainian looking to build a Family Tree???
I just realized that you might be a native Ukrainian ???
If so, all archives are suppose to be free to you. Work backwards. Start w/documenting your Parents, then Grandparents, then GGrandparents. Records newer than 75 yrs old are in RAHS/district archives. Records between 75-100 yrs old can generally be found in oblast archives. With some variation, records older than 100 yrs old can be found at Historical Archives in either Kyiv or Lviv. ______________________________________________________ Start with talking to as many elders in your family that you can. Using a audio or video recorder is ideal. Ask for any old records they may have tucked away. |

Умови зберігання книг реєстрації актів громадянського стану і метричних книг в органах реєстрації актів громадянського стану, а також порядок передачі цих книг на зберігання в державний архів - Украинское законодательство This is a very funny law! ![]() I know several cases when records in the first and second copies vary - and this law requres that the second copy is obliterated after 75 years
