village property ownership

We have just learned of the death of a family member living in a small village in Ukraine. The family has lived in this village for many generations. I am just wondering...when she died does the property revert to the government or could she have owned the small piece of land. She has living children, but as many children today they have moved to the city to work.

Joyce,

If your relative had a will, the property will go to the assigned heir and if there was no will, her children will benefit.

The small piece of land will probably become a family garden??? Many urban dwellers subsidize their diets by planting
potatoes and other vegetables and fruits on their ancestral property after the elders have passed on.

Thank you so much Hannia. I am sure she had a will, and I am told she had 1 1/4 acre garden along with 2 houses and an orchard. I am glad it will pass to her family and not the government.
