I have the house numbers of birth , death and marriage records, of my family in ancestral village of Wojslawice/ Sokal area.
I would like to find old land records to see exactly where some of these houses were,..........has anyone had success in locating such ancestral properties.? Are these LAND CADASTRE records in Lviv Archives? And are they accesable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dya ku yu Bob |

Hi Bob,
Lenius' Gazetteer does not show any Cadastral Records available for Войславич╕ or Угрин╕в. Maybe they're attached to Сокаль ??? Since you're traveling to Ukraine, consider e-mailing the Historical Archives in Lviv and asking for confirmation. archives2000@gmail.com Direct request to either Evhenia Lisovska or Lesia Stefanyk. |

E-mail from Bob Koshman, currently in Sokal > Ukraine
Hello to all
I hope the weather is better there than here. It is not that bad, cloudy and cool, about 10 -15 c, and not really nice. But it is ok. So , where am I? I am at Ruslanas aprtmt, and stayed here last nite. I am using her computer, and signed in to hotmail, and it is faster than we have there! So this is very good. Last tuesday, Victor Kuzio , translator i had met, were at the archives in lviv, but they did not have the land records i wanted, so i suggested we go to sokal, and away we went. We stopped at Chervonhrad, Bohdana Storojuk, cousin, lives and she was not at her aprtment, Victor asked some people in the hall and they told us where she worked so we went to her school, and found her.!!!! She was,,well, blown away. We hugged and hugged and she started talking a mile a minute , explaining to her co workers, we were in the hall way of other offices, telling about me,,,,,Kanada, etc , and she was so excited, I thought she might faint.!! Victor translated for us, for a bit, then Bohd. had the English teacher come from her home, to tranlstate for us. Irene spoke excellent Eng. Bohd. is the , vice principal, but the principal is away so she is in charge. But they call themselves 'Director' We then went to a restaurant, very nice place , just as we have. She ordered food, and of course we had the hirilka toasts. There is a method and tradition to this toasting, i will explain later. We then went to her apart. and had more food and more toasts, her husband, Roman, son , Valsyl, his wife Oksana, and she is pregnant after five years so they are all happy. And Irene the translator came and tranlslted for us until about ten. Bohdanna is having their aprtmt renov, a little on the balcony off the master bedroom. Vasyls apartm is right below theirs and completely renovated(have video) and they gave me their apartment to stay in, and they stayed upstairs with Bohdana. Oksana came down in morn and made breakfast for me. Next day Ruslana and her dad , Vasyl Koshman, and mom , Mary came at 8:30 am , to pick me up and we went to Sokal.!!! About a half hour drive. Ruslana does not speak much English , but we got by. We arrived at Vasyl and Marys house, and they showed me their place. Their house, with a summer kitchen, attached to is the building for chickens, some ducks, and two pigs. Every piece of ground is used for garden, strawberries, couple of apple, cherry, plum, pear trees........no wasted space, and no lawn. The sounds and smells of the farmyard brought back my childhood farm memories. Also applies to the outhouse,, but it has nice bright flowered wall paper, and a soft homemade seat. Vasyl and Mary were very happy and glad, she kept looking at me and smiling, make some comment (Kanada, etc) they would all laugh or smile , nod their heads. We then went to a school to pick up Galina, Vasyl's sister. She also is a principal or vice-principal. She brought along her English teacher, and the 5 of us, in Vasyl's small car, went off to Wojslawice|!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recognized the road going in, (from google earth !) and next thing I was there!!! in the streets of dads village. I will explain more , with pics, of the village later. We went directly to the cemetary, it was a very large one, the grass and weeds are three feet tall, very thick, but the monuments are all five to seven feet tall. I have this all on video. Ihave the trip from Sokal to Wojslawice on video, then walking in the cemetary, my batteries went dead,,,,,,,,,,which is probably just as well, as I could now concentrate on why I was there. They led me towards the back, under huge trees, and Vasyl and his sister Galina and Ruslana,(thru the translator)explained that during the past , before WW2, all the original families had areas for their departed ones, and this , he says with a sweeping gesture, turning in a circle, taking in an area of about 50 feet square is the Koshman area, Right next was the Kozak area, and he says the Koshmans and Kozaks are related. There are two head stones with 'Koshman' (KOWMaH) and nothing else, a small wooded cross, very old and rotten. Some old monuments but the names eroded away, by time. I will return , and take more video. Vasyl goes on to explain that all the headstones and graves were levelled and destroyed by the Germans in WW2, absolutely nothing was left!! I did not know this, I thought that the old cemetary was not touched during WW2, but I was wrong. It was a very moving time for me, I sat on the ground and had an emotional cry. Ater I stood up, I could see that I was not the only one crying, and we all hugged and wiped out tears. I now feel and know better of who I am, and where I came from. Some missing part has fell into place. I wish dad could have made it back to Wojslawice, I think he wanted to, but for reasons we'll never know, he didn't, I know he would have wanted to see what, after 96 years, I have seen. During the visit in the graveyard, it was sunny and nice, as we got into the car, leaving it started to rain. As we were leaving the village, the rain really got heavy. Galina says to me, "Your ancestors had nice sunny weather for your visit, and now that you leaving, they are sad and crying!" Tak, yes, I reply. With a mixed joy and sadness. We all returned to Vasyl and Mary Koshmans house (she remained and prepared food) and we sat and had a meal. With, Constantine , the translator, we all asked many questions, and had wonderful time. About 7:00 pm, Vasyl brought us to Ruslana aprtmt. For more snacks and hirilka. Andrew Tkachuk, the English school teacher that lives in the same building, and who knew her, came by and we talked more. Ruslana and I started looking at pics, hers and mine, then she answered the phone and was talking, so layed down for a minute , (as since I've been here, I get very tired about 6 or 7 , as it is 4 or 5 in the morning at home)..........anyhow the next thing I know it is the middle of the night, and Ruslana had covered me with a blanket. We had breakfast, and I have been writing this for the past hour. This has been one of the most moving and emotional, good emotional, experiences and times in my life. Bob |
