This is one of those surnames that can be Polish or Urainiian. For any records not available, you can contact Ternopilska oblast Archives. I checked telephone directory for surname in Hremayliv and found nothing listed. Consider writing Town Administration and making inquiry re any surviving family still living there. I think one of the problems you might run into is Hrymayliv from late 18th century to 1919 was county seat and from 1919-1939 was the judicial district. This means that there were many villages in the district. Immigrants frequently referred to their place of origin as district center for geographical referrence, as their own villages were small. |

Hello Graham Wickens,
With regard to your posting on Mr. Mudry, whilst I have no information on his family,I met him when he visited Dunlop Tyres in Leeds in the 1970s as a Branch Inspector. In assisting him with his auditing work he mentioned that he featured in a book by Hammond Innes called A Harvest of Journeys in which the author, on a flight in Aden, is astonished at the skills shown by his pilot 'Pop' ( Sgt.Mudry). I acquired the book and made a copy of the relevant chapter. Together with a Dunlop colleague,I have longed to know about Willy Mudry's eventful life, especially in the Battle Of Britain (his name is on the Memorial) and I wonder if you can recommend any relevant books or websites? Kind Regards, Edward Burwell |
