My Family - Carpatho-Rusyn

Hello Everyone!

It has been a very long time since I visited. I have been extremely busy and overcome with joy as my family (both mother and father) have been verified as having come from Ukraine with each family known as Carpatho-Rusyn.

My family and I are trying to make arrangements to visit the areas - Uzhgorod and then Slovakia, not far from Uzh. Here is my blog that is just about completed. The Kocherans

A cousin hired an investigator to go to the area churches and he was able to verify all this information. We are so excited!

My grandparents, John and Mary, were Ukranian and Russian Orthodox. On my mother's side, her family were Russian Orthodox Catholics. Now I can understand the dislike John and Mary had of my mom. Old feelings take a long time to heal or change. My parents have now been married over 60 years and are healthy. That is why we want to come to the Ukraine next year!

russian orthodox catholics? I saw it discussed a little in that link you provided.

Is it a part of Byzantine, greek or uniate catholics?

So do you distinguish yourself as a Lemko as well or just a Rusyn/ruthenian?

Hello Linda,

There is quite a distance between Syniverska Polyana and Uzhorod. It
looks close on a map, but remember these are mountains you are crossing.
If traveling w/elderly parents, I would not make the trip in the spring.
Frequent flooding makes for very muddy roads. Make sure to make a
stop at the Synivir Lake, gorgeous, restful place on land preserve
w/very pleasant accomodations.

Have you located any surviving relatives in your ancestral villages?

PS> Please e-mail me. I need some advice. mitehelp@aol.com

Thanks so much Hannia! I definitely will take your advice. I sent you an email so be sure to look.

Where do you live? I definitely would want to meet you!
