Don't know if you saw this post. It's very useful when you're guessing the spelling of surname transliteration or don't know port of entry. ___________________________________________________________ Immigrated to United States and you can't find records??? Convert your surname to Soundex Code. Don't worry too much about precise spelling. This search for records is based on SOUNDS LIKE SURNAME. It also covers St. Alban's Records & Detroit port entry, via ship to Canada and then train to States. Canadian entry port, then train to States was cheaper deal. Steamship co's were very competitive during Great Immigration. Hannia, thanks for the link to the sites on the Roma. Your efforts are sincerely appreciated. I think the Gypsy element may have some truth to it. I can tell you, it's in my blood to travel. I've lived in 16 countries and have travelled to every continent. By plane though, not caravan. |
