I am partial to biblical names. They are strong, non-fussy given names.

The Gaelic language has the best meaning for the name, albeit pagan : SON OF THE SUN.

Seems like there wasn't a lot of imagination used by my ancestors either. Basic names. But that's o.k.

I am still trying to find more of my relatives in the U.S.A. The real struggle is Olena Kozudej, nee Dublanin. Found a record of her and her family in the U.S. Census 1920 but nothing else. Trying to locate the actual records is the real challenge. Ancestry is o.k. but limited in many ways. For the life of me, I cannot find any record of her entering the U.S. no matter what variations of the last name or married name I use. In that sense this exercise is frustrating. I am concluding that there are no records left (they were lost) or that the variation of the name is so far of that it isn't interesting.

Along the way you also encounter disappointment. Found my great grandmother's brother's relatives - they had no interest in communicating except 1. He lives in British Columbia and I went to visit him last November. He is quite old, about 88 and told me if I had found him 20 years ago he would probably have been more interested. His brothers (younger) and their children have no interest in communicating with me at all. Sad. I guess that's just part of what happens when you do these kinds of searches.

This is typical story - when setting out to research you family history you must be ready for both - pleasant excitements and bitter disappointments..
Didn't your rels in Kosovets have letters from Olena with her address?

Nice to hear from you, sorry it's been a while since I've had time to visit this forum. Unfortunately the letters did not help me, I could not find any info. Olena is from my great-grandmother's side of the family, not my great-grandfather's. They were from what is now the other side of the border. I think you are right though, you have to take both the successes and failures when you start researching your relatives. Seems I have hit a snag but I won't give up yet in finding Olena Kozudej's information.
