Following quaint little book from Canadian Archives details life in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, concentrating mainly on the Carpathian regions.

Written by Palmer in 1903. English language. Well worth the 400 page read. Last few chapters cover subjects of education, religion and language.

Hannia, we should also wish to Hedgehog and also to Steve (Huicze) a successful trip to the land of their ancestors in the coming year!

Irene,

Marya and her husband are also definitely coming during Easter, to visit the elderly relative you found in Vohlyn. I know there are others as well, but my head is spinning right now.

Hedgehog,

You have been here a while and your nick is cute, but I would prefer to address you by your given name, if you don't mind. What is it?

I am in the process of ordering some books from the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies Press, one which is written by John-Paul Hlimko. It is written in English and is called " Galician Villagers and the Ukrainian National Movement in the 19th Century." It covers exactly the time frame of interest to you, late 18th century to early 20th. The orientation looks to be socio-historical.
