Hi Dobre Den,
Thank's for the info. During my visits to the centre I havn't seen a machine as you describe, I'm sure had one been available the staff would have suggested it as an alternative to the printed pages. The following webb address [urlhttp://poddle.webpark.pl/rod/kuliczkowski.html[/url] constructed by Tadeusz Brozbar, provides most if not all the information. Also he has built a formidable Kuliczkowski family tree on GreatFamily, there are a couple of missing pieces, he says, but if he is unable to locate them I feel no one can. Thank's for your interest, Joe. |

Where has he been, you might well ask. Running around in circles with little progress to show for it.
Early part of December I had a new body part fitted, when the news filtered out the widowed ladies nearby developed a great interest until it was disclosed I had a hip replacement. Suddenly the interest waned ! I have recovered old ground in the hopes I might discover something I had previously overlooked, no such luck. This quote from an email confirms what had been suggested previously and set me searching for the Catholic church that would have covered St George in the East area. Uncle says that nearly in 100% JK was a catholic. Most people from were he lived before emigration were catolics and they were very attached to their religion. Those people were very religious. It is doubtful that JK coud change his religion for Church of England but It is possible that JK's children has change their religion. when I went to Poland for holiays in Feb 2009 I met Uncle- he is sure we are Family with you ![]() good luck in your search regards Marzanna. Uncle is Tadeusz Brozbar. Following a few phone calls I requested a search at the Diocese of Westminster Archives - this request was a search for a record of the birth of my GM - the reply follows: I have searched the baptism registers of Commercial Road (which was in the Anglian parish of St George in the East ) for the years 1850 to 1853. I am afraid that I found no mention of Margaret Kuliczkowski or Nicholson. Reminder, Margaret the daughter of Jan and Christiana -maiden name Nicholson. Strange to say I have more details of JK than I possess of Christiana. Her name appears on the 1861 census -along with JK and Margaret - son Joseph's birth certificate plus her own death certificate, no other recordings found. A mysterious lady. I think the possibility of futher information from Poland is very unlikely. Uncle has made extensive enquiries into the family, though I must say he was most surprised to learn - from me - that JK had been an officer in the 5th Polish Regiment and had been involved in the Warsaw 1830 Uprising, so you never know. Joe. |

I have just received a copy of Joseph's death certificate. I found it to be disturbing. The little lad was 18 months old when he passed away in a workhouse. The cause of death was Marasmus Certified.
Back to the real world. 26th January 1859 Workhouse Princess St, St George in the East Middx. Son of Christiana Nicholson. Informant Sarah Christy same address. As you may well imagine, the unanswerable questions in my mind. Where was Christiana and Margaret ( 6 years old ), had he been abandoned, where was JK - his father -, what were the circumstances surrounding this situation ? The Poor Law records - Ancestry - for 1859 have yet to be digitised, by some other means I will have to obtain the information from the L.M.A. to confirm if Christiana and Margaret were also inmates with Joseph. How sad it is , the little lad even at that age would have been aware of his surroundings even though he would have no understanding of the situation he was in. I must obtain some reassurance that his family was with him and that he had not been abandoned. Joe. |

On Monday I made my first visit to the LMA. The staff were most helpfull, anyone hesitating in making their first visit, just go.
To make things easier I obtained - on line from LMA - the reference numbers for the films I required and within a few minutes of entering the building I was viewing the films. I searched the Admitted and Discharged register and located Joseph on the discharged page, under the column How Discharged there is one word - Dead. Reading down the page I located Christiana, that made me happy, he was with his mother but, where is Margaret. I searched backwards a few times but I was unable to locate her discharge, another mystery? The next step was to check the Admitted pages again, I decide to check back to Joseph's birth 20.07.1857, even though his birth certificate states he was born at 3, Chapel St. unfortunately the pages prior to the 27.07.1857 are missing. I was unable to find an entry for the family, itwould be easy to miss one entry but not two or three assuming they were admitted on the same day, stating the obvious, I am unable to determine the period of time they were inmates, another mystery The next search was for Margaret's baptisim. Film X024/134 covers Feb1848 to Dec1853, unfortunately I was unable to find an entry under the name of Nicholson or Kuliczkowski. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Joe. |
