my surname ending is -enko I tried a family tree site... worked great for my Polish side! nothing for the Ukrainian side. This site is free: FamilySearch.org - Family History and Genealogy Records While searching for my family, I also have found many different spellings on records. Good Luck!

Regarding Fedorowich: The name Fedorowicz appears in records dating back to the late 1700's in the village of Starjy Sambir. Someone by that last name was the midwife for the village...delivered my Grandmother. The name also came to he US from that village as my Grandma had a good friend with that last name. Visited there last summer, quite a place!

millgirl,
that is quite interesting. I wonder is there is any link between that and my last name. I got to dig deeper with my relatives to see what route they took to get to Canada. My grandmas side is Polish and hopefully she is okay to talk about it. It may be a small world after all. |

Names ending in -icz
Fedorovich, as I live in Warsaw, Poland, I would like to make you aware that your name is not uncommon in Poland now and I personally know one my university mate of that name. The current Polish writing is Fedorowicz (read Fedorovich) with another variant name Federowicz.
Names ending in –icz were popular in historic part of Grand Lithuanian Duchy being a part of Rzeczpospolita [Commonwealth of Both Nations] at a time, now in Belarus. Some examples: Adam Mickiewicz (the most famous Polish poet) Henry Sienkiewicz (a Polish novelist of international fame, Nobel prize novelist for the “Quo Vadis” novel 1905), Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz (well-known Polish novelist), Adam Hanuszkiwiecz (popular Warsaw theatre actor and director), Harasymowicz (one of military commanders in the Polsih-Soviet war 1920). Lithuanians modify Mickiewicz’s name to Mickievicius. Regards |

I would be glad if the info I provided could be useful
OK, Fedorovich, you're welcome. You do not have to spare me because of my information for you. On the other hand, I guess you are much younger than me and your views are "sharper". We all should show respect for our discussion partners, their real or supposed feelings and labelling God as "stinking God" (V-G, not you) is not tactful.
