Bumbak Family/Nagy Gajdos

Seeking information for Bumbak's Possibly from Kobler or Nagy Gajdos in

former Bereg , Austria-Hungary. I have very little information beyond this

as what I am able to find has conflicting dates. Vasily Bumbak Immigrated

early in the 1900's and Married a Maria Prokopecz in either Wilkes-Barre,Pa.

or Belmont County Ohio. Maria also was from Nagy Gajdos.

Any information on these towns would be appreciated.

Dennis

Is your ancestor Lemko or rusyn?

That sounds like its a hungarian region of the old austro-hungarian empire.

If your ancestor is Lemko or rusyn, they are probably from the Transcarpathia or presov region.

good luck in your research.

Ruthenians are subethnosis of Ukrainians.

rusyn is another word for ruthenian sometimes.

Austrians and hungarians called Ukrainians, ruthenians back in the day.

But since he is from Transcarpathia, I would say he is rusyn - ruthenian.

Lemkos are rusyns(ruthenians) too.

anyways, good luck in your research and Hannia will probably help you.

TODAY, Nagygajdos> Ungvari** is called selo/village
çÁÊÄÏÛ (in Ukrainian)/Haidosh and Kobler***
(dating back to 16th century) > Ungvari is called ëÉÂÌÑÒÉ/Kyblyary.
Both villages are hamlet size w/vineyards, the mainstay of the local
agricultural economy. Haidosh has 454 and Kyblary, next door on the
Stara River, has 791 souls residing there. The Village Administrator
and post ofc for both villages is in Kyblary.

This is the beautiful Zakarpatska oblast/region > Ukraine.

**Ungvari jaras - today Uzhorodskij raion/district

***Keobler/ ëob¶jÁÇ/ëyblÁÇ were other names that show
up in 16th/17th century documents.
