Thank you Hannia.

I can not tell you at this time because I never know what she is up to.
I found some relations she has been looking for here in the U.S.and seems she wishes to repay the favor.
We communicate using the Google translator and it is very bumpy at times.

I hope she does not go to that much trouble.

Dennis

As per Ellis Island, there is a Laszlo BOMLAK (probably a clerical error), 19, born appx 1887, 5 ft- 3,
black hair, heading for Carteret NJ, with two friends. Emigrating from Kobley/Kobler, Hungary.

Was Grandfather a short man ?

Laszlo is Hungarian version of given name, Vladislav. It may be that Wasyl's given name was Hungarianized
to Laszlo in documents????

Bumbak/Kobler

Yes this is him Hannia,1 Dec.1906.
Hungarianized/Magyarized.

This is from Cousin Božena in response to your address in Užhorod.......

I know this address.
Poznám túto adresu.

I need an address to the village Kybliari and Packanoc
Potrebujem adresu na obec Kybliari a Packanoc.

I say Patskan'ova. It is afew miles East of Kybiari.

Vasily's Naturalization papers say he most likely entered under another name and Laszlo from Kobler is correct.

Einsteinw,

Ung/Uzh was/is a RIver. Ungvar was a megyve/region and also a fair size city under the domain of the Kingdom of Hungary > Austro-Hungarian Empire, when your immigrant ancestors were emigrating during the Great Immigration.
_____________________________________________________

Uzhhorod was part of the Kingdom of Hungary (11th century - 1918 and 1938-1944) with the name of Ungvár in the Ungvári járás (district) and Ung megyé (county), next part of Czechoslovakia (1918-1938) with the name of Užhorod in Podkarpatská Rus (Sub-Carpathia), then part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (1945-1991) with the name of Uzhgorod in the Uzhhorod (district) and since 1991 known as Uzhhorod in the Uzhhorodskyi rayon (district) and the Zakarpats'ka oblast (county) of Ukraine.

Other spellings/names for Uzhhorod are Ungwar, Użhorod, Ungvir, Uschurod, Ingver and Yngvyr.

Uzhhorod is located 22 miles WNW of Mukacheve (Munkács), 47 miles NNW of Berehove (Beregszász) and is a border crossing point to nearby Slovakia.

As per Ellis Island Records there are at least a dozen Ondik and other surnames you listed. You have to locate your IMMIGRANT ANCESTOR and then ascertain the place of origin for that individual. Then you can proceed to research them in the Carpathian Mountains.

Are you sure the metryka (baptismal certificate) does not provide you w/name of village of birth? Consider posting your document here and we should be able to figure it out.
