family search
Hi Hannia,
I have studied all of my mothers papers imagration selection, Naturalization, also ITS Bad Arolsen as suggested by you and this is all I can find. Maria Momot nee Litwinski-a dob 1922 Poltawa Russia Roman Catholic of Polish origin, nothing stated where it asks for village, so with this information I would say she was born in Poltawa (Poltava) the city, could anyone help me with a email address to a Archive or a Parish church in Poltava to look for my mothers birth and Baptism certificates so I can find my grandparents exact birth place, they are as Toedor Litwinski 1895-8 Poland Julia Janiszewska 1900 Poland. My grandmother is possible buried in Poltava, she passed away 1936 ( I have never meet or know what my grandparents look like) Does anyone know of these names I would be grateful for any information. I want to find family. Thank You. Cheers Liz AUSTRALIA. |

Hello Lizzie,
Technically Poland did not exist as a geopolitical entity from late 18th c. to 1919. We have to locate your Mother's metrykal record and hopefully that will tell you where your Grandparents were born. Poles were in Poltava for several hundreds of yrs ??? In the 18th century Poles were sent to Kiev, Poltava and Odessa Schools for higher education. Under Czarist domian many were not allowed to attend their own universities. ________________________________________________ Notice these Poltava RC Records were filmed by LDS in Central State Historical Archives of Belarus in Minsk. The Archdiocese for RC in Poltava might have been located in what is Belarus today??? Before researching below I would contact the Poltava oblast Archives and request a birth certificate for Mother. She was born 86 yrs ago, so her records should be at oblast level. There is no prepayment at Ukrainian Archives. You can communicate in English, but they will reply in Ukrainian. Once they have located documents, they will notify you what type of record they have, cost and method of payment. Turn around time might take as long as three months. Authors Roman Catholic Church.
