Wadovka/Baduvka
I'm trying to trace the ancestry of my grandfather Isaac Kilishek, who emigrated from Russia in about 1910. He stated that his village was Wadovka, in Vohlnia.
Does anyone know, would this be Baduvka, approximately 170 miles west of Kiev? Thanks for any help. |

I have spent the last day or so looking thru old Russian maps.
Baduvka does show up on these maps, but B in Baduvka is Cyrillic B sound = â, not Cyrillic V sound = B. The only Wadowka I found was one in Grodno gubernia, in what is Poland and Belarus today. I even tried translating Wadowka (W indicates a Polish name) into Ukrainian. It means FROTHY WATERS. There is a Vodychki today in Khmelnytska region, once a part of Vohlyn gubernia, Sorry I could not be more helpful. |

Badivka
Polsh Baduvka most probably is translated as Badivka in Ukrainian – so it is in Rivnenska oblast’ (Rivne district), Ostrozkyj rayon (Ostrog district) – about 5 km north-east from Ostrog:
N50.3863 E26.6475 - Êàðòà Óêðàèíû - Ukraine topographic maps (actally it says “Badovka” in Russian – as map seems to be from soviet times yet )P.S. Hannia – thank you for references – owe you more, and more, and more…
