Hannia, might have info on Stephan
I was trying to figure out the relationship between my grandmother and Ksenia. Well when you said Stepanovna meant her father was Stephan and that Matechak was last her last name, it got me to thinking, and I have a list of some relatives who predeceased my grandmother, and on the list it says her brother Stephan. So it could be that Ksenia was my grandmothers niece, if she was the daughter of my grandmothers brother. And if Sophia is Ksenia's mother she may have referred to my grandmother as her sister (when she would have been her sister-in-law) and my grandfather as bro-in-law (when he actually was, I guess through marriage).
I am hopeing to get a letter written to the administrator sometime this week (hard with working), and was hoping you would look it over and see if it is good enough, or let me know if I should add something, or take anything out. I really do appreciate all your help. Also, you said that Max the Highlander was translating something for me. Should I contact him directly aobut that, or will he get in touch with me when he has completed it. |

To Hannia: Letters Written
Hannia, if you are available, I wrote up 2 letters, one to the Ukraine adminisatrator in Peremozhne and another to Czarna in Poland. Question: Would you be able to look them over and see if they are o.k., and if they are, can someone here translate them? I know the one to the administrator in Peremozhne you said should be in Ukrainian. Was wondering about the other one, should that be in Polish??? Thanks for all your help.

Have wrong relationship for Ksenia
Just thinking about the relationship between my grandmother and Ksenia Matechak again. I am wrong. Ksenia couldn't have been my grandmother's niece, as my grandmother's maiden name was Biszko, not Matechak. Matechak was her mothers maiden name. Just wanted to clear that up. Seems I need to work on this a little more, and try to figure out the connection.

I'm sorry if I'm a little intrusive but after reading through your post I can't help but contribute the little I can. My last name is Matechak (also spelled as Mattichak by some cousins) and ever since I first asked about where the name came from I was told it was Russian. Most of my family settled around Scranton, PA (Clarks Summit, Dickson City), and my grandfather's parents and aunts and uncles would always be speaking Russian, or at least what seemed like it. If this post is still active I'd be interested to know how much you've found out since your last post in 2008, if you get back to this forum. If you're still searching, good luck.

PSlivinski,
I am sure that by now you have discovered all the info you were after. But since GMatechak2 has opened this post, I did some searching. There are still Matyichak (Матийчак) and Bishko/Biszko (Бишко) living in Peremozhne (Переможне). |
