Stef,

To date I have not encountered such a name. I suspect that
her given name was more likely OLENA. This name is frequently
translated to Helen or Elena.

From late 18th century to 1919 wies Nadziejow was a fair size
village w/both a Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic Church.
Dolina was both the powiat/administrative and the gmina/judicial-
tax district > Stanislawskie wojiwodswo > Galicia/Halyczyna
Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE.
From 1919-1939 (post WW1) this region came under
Reconstituted Poland's domain. Technically Poland had not existed
as a geopolitical entity for the previous 125 yrs. All previous names,
w/the exception of Halyczyna, are Polish names. Post WW2 the
region became a part of SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain until
1991, when Ukraine became independent.

Today selo/village Nadiyiv (means OF HOPES) still exists > Dolynskij
raion/district > Ivano-Frankivska (pre 1962 Stanislawow) oblast/region >
Ukraine, latest zip code 77515.

LDS has filmed some metrykal data 1858-1914. Have you researched
your surname in these records?

Another possibility might be that Olejanna is a poor transliteration
of Yulianna/Julianna ???

I concur with Hannia that it must be Olena. The thing is that the respective middle sound is best transliterated as 'ye'; however, some people who are not familiar with English use j instead of y. J does not mean something like g, but rather i, to make the following sound softer. So, Olejanna must be Oljeanna => Olyena. But I am not sure. Actually, the middle sound in Olena is not soft, so no need in y or j. What I know for sure is that Americans prounounce the name Yelyena as Alayna if transliterated simply as Elena (Елена). This might a clue to the -anna ending.

Oh, Julianna might also be an option. I am not sure.

But I am nearly 100% there is a typo there

Just speculating.

Thanks

Hi, thank you all for the help. I do have the films ordered from the LDS Church on my areas I am searching.
Olejanna was the name on the ship records, it will be interesting to see if she is on these films that are coming...
They called her Helen and Julianne here in Canada. So you are all right on.. Thanks again
Stephanie
