I am looking for any history on the surname Namaka. I have heard that Ukrainian surnames have their origin in either greek, christian, occupational, geographical, etc. roots, but I can't find any information on the origin of this name, (and I guess Namak would be its original masculine form?)
![]() Any one have any ideas? the ancestors are from Western Ukraine, Ternopil area. thank you, MaksKat |

Namaka looks to be rooted in Turkish/Tartar or Armenian???
Namak means salt in Persian/Iranian. Namak - A = belonging to The 17th c. Turkish and Tatar Wars were concentrated around Ternopil Region. |

Hannia,
(Forgive me if my reply has been posted twice. I didn't see it come through the first time!) Thank you for the suggestion. I know the ancestors have been in the area as far back as 1785, and are listed as Greek Catholics in church records. Im my own immediate family, we are fair-haired, light eyes, but 17th c. is a very long time ago. Anything is possible!
