HUL and DENEKA Surnames

I am searching for my great grandmother's family. Her name was Paraskevia Teodorivna HUL, born October 11, 1893 in Lublinetz Nowij, Galacia, Austria. Her parents were Teodor HUL (born in 1868, died 1920 in Lublinetz Nowij) and Anastasia DENEKA (born in 1869, died 1941 in Lublinetz Nowij).

Paraskevia's siblings were Kataryna (born July 1891, died April 1973), Ivan (born 1892), Andrij, Hrytz, Yevka, Dmytro, and Mychaylo.

From late 18th century to 1919 Lubliniec Nowy was predominantly
a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village w/its own Ukrainian Church. The filial
Roman Catholic Church was in Cieszanow. Cieszanow was both
the POWIAT/administrative district and the GMINA/judicial-tax district.
Galicia, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Today this is Lubaczow County > Podkarpackie Wojiwodstwo > SE Poland.
This is very close to the Ukrainian border.

State Archive in Przemysl - History

PEREMYSHL EPARCHY

In 1772 the Austrian Empire required that the clergy keep registers for births, marriages and deaths for their parish.
These records would then be duplicated for civil registries. It took some time for all areas of the Empire to be in
compliance with this new law. In the Peremyshl area this did not start until 1784.

The Greek Catholic archived records for the Galician portion of Peremyshl (Poland and Ukraine) are found in the
Przemysl State Archive (Archiwum Panstwowe w Przemyslu). The Civil Registry Offices hold more recent records.

A very small portion of parish books from 106 parishes in Przemysl have been microfilmed by the LDS. Check you
local LDS FHC library for the archival inventory. A larger collection of records, called the Bishops Transcript
Collection, have not been filmed by the LDS. You will need to have a private researcher, or write for them.
(there is a hourly research fee, and document fee which you will be informed of)

Yevka is nickname for Eudokia.

Paraskevia was very likely called Paraska by her family. This name was frequently anglicized to Pearl
in the Americas.

Teodor was very likely called Feodor/Fedko by family.

This is a long article, but read it carefully. This will give you an idea as to what has happened to your families.

Thank you Hannia. My great grandmother Paraskevia was known as Pearl and she taught me a few Ukrainian words. I was named after her sister, ЌÁÔÅÒÉÎÁ. She shared a dew stories about how she came to America but now she is dead along with her daughter, who was my grandmother. I found her entry into America via Ellis Island but I was hoping to connect with her family who may still live in the Ukraine or at least find out more genealogical information on her family. This will get me started. Again, many thanks.

GGrandmother would have called you Kaska, nick for Katheryna.

I'll take a look and see if there is anyway we can find out where
GGrandmother's family was relocated.
