Before the WW2 Weldzirz (means WORLD VIEW in German) was a large village w/a very large population
of Germans, who used the filial Evangelical Church in Ugarsthal. Weldzirz had both a Roman Catholic
Church and Greek Catholic Church of its own. Dolina was both the powiat/administrative district and the
gmina/judicial-tax district. The region was called Stanoslawow. From late 18th century to 1919 the region
of part of Galicia/Halyczyna (Ukr), administered by ethnic Poles for the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN Empire. From 1919
to 1938 it became a part of Reconstituted Poland. It declared itself independent for about 8 months in 1938 and
post WW2 became a part of SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain until 1991, when Ukraine became independent.

Today the selo/village name is Schevchenkovo > Dolynskij (Dolyna) raion/district > Ivano-Frankivska (Stanislawow
until 1964???) oblast/region> Ukraine, latest zip code 77556

What yrs are you researching? Where did your Immigrant Ancestor settle upon immigration?

Thank you for the detailed reply.
My grand mother emigrated to Transilvanya when she was a child. She was born late 18th century.
I looked in some maps on the web but I did not find the town Schevchenkovo . Thanks Giora

You see, there is a big town called Ivano-Frankivska and a small town Dolyna. Is Schevchenkovo in this area?

Veldzizh, Wełdzicz, Veldizh, Shevchenkovo, Shevchenkove

map coordinates 48.54-23.55.

Village is located 6.5 miles NE of Dolyna, the district center town.

I favor Shtetlseeker.com over most online maps.

I used Weldzirz > Ukraine for SEARCH. Once you locate village on list,
click letter M (Mapquest).
