Allan,
I think it would be very useful for you to read as much as you can on the bord. Just a few links below there is an Andre King's story. He was/is in the same situation as you and lives somewhere close to you. Just have a look how much they have done. I am sure you'll find intersting general and perhaps specific information. The paprers you are looking for can be either in central oblast archive or in regional ( rajon) one. |

Allan,
Records for Father would be in Rohatyn RAHS (District Archives), but without EXACT PLACE OF BIRTH they will not be able to help. Even at this level records are not kept alphabetically. At RAHS level they do no research. They simply supply a copy of whatever record you are looking for. The procedure for obtaining RAHS documents: One has to contact nearest Ukrainian Consulate or Ukrainian Embassy. You need to obtain a PRIVACY RELEASE. There is a charge of appx $75. Then you can submit you request. BUT I think w/o knowing for sure the exact place of birth, you are throwing your money away, because there is no refund if they do not find the document if the town or village is not correct. RAHS - all records under 75 yrs old Oblast Archives - records between 75-100 yrs old Historical Archives in Lviv - all records over 100 yrs old. Additionally, some village records for Stanislawow/Ivano-Frankivska oblast are part of Lubaczow > Poland. LDS has only filmed 1854 Greek Catholic Records for Rohatyn. ______________________________________________________ Allan, get in touch w/Ihor Kohut. He lives in Ivano-Frankivsk, the regional center. Ask whether he can look up the phone numbers for you. Tell him I sent you to him for help. At a later date, if you decide to visit your ancestral village/town, Ihor can be of great svce as personal translator and chauffeur??? He comes w/exc references and his prices are very fair. His full time position is teaching at the Ivano-Frankivska University. micro@il.if.ua In the interim I am trying to locate the Ivano-Frankivska oblast obits and lists of missing persons during WW2. I would think that LDS has filmed the books. Again it's not alphabetical. The books are arranged per district and village. Since Father was in Galicia Division, he may be listed as missing. |
