Wink the correct spelling of KABLUCKYJ

Hi..i need help with finding my father in laws family.
these are the facts we have, but i`m more or less certain there is a spelling mistake somewhere along the line.
my wifes father was OSTAP KABLUCKYJ b 1929 on 10th october.
we have him as born in rhoatyn, ukraine and he was greek orthodox in religion. We don`t know if he was actually born in rhoatyn or a little village outside rhoatyn.Unfortunately ostap died in 1967 when he was just 38.He used to send clothes parcels home to the ukraine, but alas we don`t have the address anymore.Ostap was captured by the british whilst serving in the army fighting with the germans in Italy.he was sent to britain, and after the war he was given the chance to return to ukraine but chose to stay in enlgand. We know ostap had family in Rhoatyn, and ostap had 2 daughters and a son in liverpool,england..he has 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren who all want to know about his roots.I have searched the web and i can`t find any other KABLUCKYJ anywhere in the world..this makes me think that when he came to england as a POW somehow, someone spelt his name wrong...has anyone got any ideas how we can trace OSTAP KABLUCKYJ`s family in or around Rhoatyn????.....thanks...allan... I have to do some looking, but I think GGrandfather's surname might have been closer to Kobaleckij???

It is likely that he, like other immigrants, referred to his district center town, Rohatyn, as place of origin
for geographical referrence, because his own selo/village in the Rohatyn raion/district was small.

Some reading in the interim:
ROHATYN - ROGATIN - ROGATYN. TOWN INFORMATION PAGE. Rohatyn is small town in northern part of Ivano-Frankivsk region in Western Ukraine. With population about 12.000 people.

As for me the surname Kabluckyj is normal ( in Ukrainian - ë á â ì õ ã ø ë é ê ). The first name Ostap is absolutely correct.

I don't know where you have searched such surname in the web , but the best way to do it is to check names in Rogatyn area ( as Hannia mentioned).

I am almost sure you'll find information you need.

I am trying to contact Sylvia in Canada for you. She has access to hard copy
directories throughout this region. She may be traveling for the holidays, so please be patient.

Allan, for most of us here, it is a privilege to help "our own" reconnect to their roots.

Brama is probably the best Ukrainian Diaspora link.
It will keep you updated as to what is happening in Ukraine.

Scroll down to Rohatyn. Do any of the villages here
ring any bells?
