Searching for ancestors/relatives
Hi. I am new to this forum and am hoping to find relatives of my grandmother and grandfather to fill in the many gaps in our family tree.
My grandfather, Marcin Solecki, was born in Skorodynce, Chortkiv about 1888. My grandmother, Teodora Jezierski, was living in Nowosiolka, Jazlowiec at the time of her marriage to my grandfather in 1912. I am not sure if she was born there. I have their original marriage certificate which I think states that they were married in Stanislawow in the Greek Catholic church. My grandfather was Polish and my grandmother was Ruthanian. My grandfather had at least 5 brothers on the family farm in Skorodynce. My grandparents came to the USA in 1914. I would like to find out who the descendents were of my grandfather's brothers and also any ancestors and siblings of his father (my great grandfather - name was Bartholomew). Also, would like to find the ancestors of my grandmother. I would consider hiring someone to look up and perhaps make copies of these records. I am not familiar with the language and am struggling to understand everything on the marriage certificate. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Carol |

From late 18th century to 1919 wies/village Skorodynce (at the turn of the century there were 302 homes
and 1420 residents. 55% were Ukrainian, 45% were Polish and 50 residents were Jewish). The filial Greek Catholic church was in Byczkowce and the filial Roman Catholic Church was in CHOMIAKOWKA. Czortkow was both the powiat/administrative district and the gmina/judicial-tax district > Tarnopilskie wojiwodstwo/region > Galicia/Halyczyna Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. All previous names except Halyczyna are transliterated from Polish. 1919-1939 this region came under Reconstituted Poland's domain. Technically Poland had not existed as a geopolitical entity for the previous 125 yrs. Post WW2 region became a part of SSR Ukraine under Soviet domain until 1991, when Ukraine became independent. TODAY selo/village Skorodintsy > Chortkivskij raion/district > Ternopilska oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip code 48513. You should be able to research these yourself. Records are in Latin, but HALGAL link below should be of help. Chomiakowka RC Records available thru LDS. PolishRoots - Parish Records Index to locate nearest LDS Family Library FamilySearch.org - Family History Centers Genealogy of Halychyna and Eastern Galicia Genealogy of Halychyna and Eastern Galicia I am having a problem locating Nowosiolka Jazlowiecka. I know it was about a mile out of Jazlowiec/Yazlovets today, but the name Yablonivka has thrown a wrench into establishing which village it actually is today. There are two Novosiolka's in close proximity. I will just provide you w/what I have so far. wies/village Nowosiolka Jazlowiecka was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village w/its own Greek Catholic Church. Buczacz was both the powiat and gmina. The filial RC Church was in Jazlowiec. In order to get local help w/your research contact Vitalij in Boston. Vitalij's friend, Ihor, is from the Ternopil Region & has lots of experience w/the Archives on all three levels, historical, oblast and RAHS/district. He has recently written a book about Ukrainian families from this region. Prices are very fair. References are available upon request. As part of his research, he will visit your ancestral villages to make some personal inquiries and to take some pictures. Vitalij = vivandr@brandeis.edu |

Hi Hannia,
They arrived at the Port of Philadelphia on April 3, 1914 on the S.S. Main and settled in Philadelphia. On the passenger list, it states she was going to her father. My great-grandfather (Michal Jezierski) arrived in Philadelphia in 1905. In 1912, his 2nd wife, Marcella, arrived with their 3 children. (His first wife, my grandmother's mother, died when my grandmother was about 4 or 5). Carol |

GGrandfather arrived via Ellis Island 3/21/1905. Looks like he went back and returned Sept 1908.
Marcela Jesierska arrived 8/22/1912 w/children, using Ellis Island as entry port. She listed leaving her mother, Teodosia Marinowski??? behind in village. Looks like all children were naturalized. |
