Lukivci

Can someone help to identify where this village is? I'm assuming its a village. Hubby's dad was born there.
Thank you so much.

Hello Dee,

I am assuming that family you are researching was Ruthenian/Ukrainian.

Today selo/village LUKIVTSI ( formerly Lukovtsy, Lukowce, Lukovtze)> VYZHNYTSKYI (Vyzhnitsia)
raion/district > CHERNIVETSKA ( Chernivtsi) oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip code 59230.

This region is frequently referred to as Northern Bukovina, Land of Beech Trees.

Bukovina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karen, member name - Slusarchuk-Zilinsky, has done research in Chernivtsi Region.
She may be able to provide you w/some clues to researching in this region.

Hannai - thanks - the birth place on hubby's dad's naturalization papers was Lukiwci, Bukowina, Austria. I couldn't find anything on Lukiwci but did on Lukivci and assumed it was the same place- would sure like to know where it is. I do know that Bukowina was under Austrian Empire and was most likely in Ukraine. He was Ukrainian. We don't have any more info than that - he was born in 1880 and immigrated to Canada in 1915 but not sure where he landed - he settled in Manitoba.
Thanks again.
Dee

Use scale on map left (up/down) to view different perspectives.

Notice that LDS has filmed 1880 church registers. See previous post.

You will probably need his name in Ukrainian in order to do research.
What is his full name?

Following article will help clarify confusion re citizenship vs ethnicity.
