HalGal

Well, thanks again Hannia!.

I was not aware that the HalGal site had such a good description of Latin church records. The columns in the church registry now make allot more sense. I'm still struggling with the "readability" of handwritten parts of the records however. Unfortunately the local LDS librarys microfilm viewers are a bit "dated" and is presently without a printer. I tried to improvise by taking digital photos of the images in the hope that I can make the images a bit clearer with some PhotoShop editor magic.

I've sent that e-mail off to Vitalij so we'll see where that takes us!

There is no getting around this. I especially dislike the curlicue users.

I use a magnifying glass and that sometimes helps w/recognizing similar letters.

This research does takes an inordinate amt of patience.

GC Church

[QUOTE=Hannia;86096]Pilatkowce was
predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village w/its own GC
Church.

Today your selo/village Pylatkivtsi (transliterated from Ukrainian) still exists >
Borschivskij raion/ district > Ternopilska oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip 48713

Hannia:

Would you happen to know or can you suggest how I might find the name of the GC Church in Pilatkivic?

Also in the above when you refer to it as a Ruthenian/Ukranian village, are you identifying two different ethnic groups that lived there at that time or the same ethnic group that was called Ruthenian before being "re-named" Ukrainians? From what I have been reading I beleive it is the latter.

From the LDS church records I have been researching, religion for one of my ancestors is noted as rgc which I believe is Ruthenian Greek Catholic.
