Looking for village of Pohorylowka

I am helping someone with finding information about his mother and have found her and her parents on the Hamburg Passenger List. They immigrated to Canada in June 1897. Their village is listed as Pohorylowka, Austria.

I have tried to find this village but have not had success. Any suggestions for its location or proper name would be appreciated.

Thanks, Karen

Thanks Hannia

What would we do without you ???

Thank you so much for the location and proper name of this village. The person I am helping is 90 years old and his mother died shortly after he was born so he never learned much of anything about her or her family.

Her place and date of birth are the two things he most wanted to find out so I know he will be thrilled!

Best regards, Karen

Karen, currently there are 594 houses and 1780 people residing in the village.
From the little I have read, it is quite a beautiful place.

If one of our members would take the time and translate the history of the village and other interesting parts of this page, I am sure Karen's 90 yr old friend would be very grateful.

LDS microfilms available for this village

Great news!

Using the spelling variations of village name and the raion I checked the LDS site and found that microfilmed Orthodox church records are available for birth, marriage and death (Pohorloutz, Zastavna raion, Chernivtsi oblast 1841 - 1919).

Thanks again Hannia for helping to make dreams come true
