Does anyone know anything about the "Ukrainian Center of Genealogical Research" www.genealogicaltree.org.ua ? Are they legitimate?

Hello John,

Ukrainian Center of Genealogical Research is a group of women in Kiev, who have paid off the Kiev Archives and are automatically referred by Historical Archives. They're legitimate, but unlike the Archives themselves, they do require a nonrefundable deposit.

If you are looking for family data in Zakarpatska Region, they have had very little success there. Additionally, I would not use them for research in Western Ukraine. That can be accomplished by researching LDS metrykal copies and contacting Historical Archives, Oblast Archives and RAHS on own.

I would only use above org if I had ancestors from Eastern Ukraine, formerly part of Czarist Russia, and have exhausted contact directly w/req Archives.

Currently outside of Blitz, Russian Baltic Center in CA, USA, there is no one w/solid contacts in Russian Archives. Even Blitz is currently pretty much limited to St. Petersburg.
