Today selo Utishkiv is in Buskij raion/district > Lvivska Oblast/Region > Ukraine, latest zip code 80561. It's about 13/14 miles NW of Zolochiv.
There is a great interest in organic farming in this village. ____________________________________________________ What is it that you would like to accomplish? ____________________________________________________ Nestor Dmytriw (1863–May 27, 1925) was a Ukrainian Catholic priest, author and translator. Born in Utishkiv, Ukraine, he came to the United States in 1895shortly after his ordination. In the US, he quickly became involved with missionary work and journalism through the Jersey City, New Jersey paper Svoboda. Through the Ruthenian National Association, Dmytriw travelled to Canada in April of 1897 to serve the spiritual needs of the Ukrainian Canadian settlers. Able to speak Ukrainian, German and English he became an interpreter for Canadian immigration. In Canadian history, Dmytriw's most notable contribution is in writing about the history and tribulations of early Ukrainian settlers. Dmytriw was only in Canada until August 1898, but as the first Ukrainian priest in Canada he organized the first Ukrainian parishes in Terebowla, Manitoba, Stuartburn, Manitoba and Edna, Alberta and was an advocate of the a separate Ukrainian Catholic church in Canada. This was initially opposed by the Canadian Catholic hierarchy, especially Archbishop Adélard Langevin, but came to fruition with the appointment of Nykyta Budka as apostolic exarch for Ukrainian Canadian Catholics. Dmytriw died in Elizabeth, New Jersey. |

Arabsky Family
my great grandmother Kcenia Arabsky came to Canada in 1905. i did find the ship manifest. her husband George (Yurko) came earlier but i can't find his records at this point. his parents were John and Warwarka Arabsky. her parents were Hnat and Katerina Cymbala. i was hoping to find a little more history and sibling information out on those left behind in the Ukraine.
thanks for taking the time to read my query. marusia21 |

I recently met a lady that was born in Zolochiw. And she would like to do some researching of her family tree. She speaks and writes Ukranian. If you wish I could put you in touch with her.

Begbie,
If your acquaintance is a Ukrainian citizen, Ukrainian Archives are free to her. She probably visits Ukraine intermittently??? She can make arrangements w/Lviv Oblast to do her own research. The Historical Archives on the other hand does not make available the very old registers to researchers since the theft a few yrs ago. She can still put in an inquiry and the archivists will do the research for her. LDS has filmed some older GC metrikal records for Zolochiv, the town.
